Southwest Transitway Alliance

Four local chambers of commerce representing southwest metro area businesses have recently formed a business collaboration called the Southwest Transitway Alliance to promote the development of a Southwest LRT line. The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce, the Eden Prairie Chamber, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber, and the Edina Chamber have joined together to provide a unified business voice for the project.

One of the Alliance’s first tasks will be to use our business clout to gain approval of a legislative funding request to pay for a portion of the next study phase, the preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). The Alliance also will work to educate the business community and public about this important project and to build broader coalition support over time.

For more information about the Southwest Transitway Alliance, or to add your business to a list of supporters, contact Jason Flohrs, TwinWest’s director of government affairs, at 763.450.2225, or jasonf@twinwest.com.

Governor Tim Pawlenty comments at the 2003 TwinWest October Legislative Luncheon:

“[TwinWest Chamber of Commerce] is a group that has been enormously influential and important to the public policy debate in the state of Minnesota. This chamber has been one of the more active, effective leaders in terms of chamber and business advocacy, job growth, and entrepreneurialism in Minnesota. We appreciate all you do. And you've placed a particular emphasis on inviting public leaders to come and share their ideas, and to hold them accountable and question them. And that's a great service to the state of Minnesota, so we appreciate sincerely and genuinely all that you do.”
