Speaker of the House, Rep. Melissa Hortman, Minority Leader, Rep. Kurt Daudt, Assistant Majority Leader, Sen. John Jasinski, and Minority Leader, Sen. Tom Bakk joined TwinWest members to discuss their positions on the priorities of the business community for the upcoming session.
Moderator, Brian McClung questioned the panel about cities that mandate employee wage and benefit packages on private businesses, tax competitiveness, and the budget surplus. Health care costs emerged as a priority issue for both parties and all agreed that there would be robust discussion surrounding transportation funding. The discussion on how to spend the budget surplus was approached with caution and legislators providing context around the actual amount available and ensuring the legislature doesn’t commit to spending that will lead to a future budget deficit.
Twinwest Chamber of Commerce will be actively advocating on behalf of business at the legislature. For more information on the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Business Agenda, please see our website, https://www.twinwest.com/business-agenda.
