The TwinWest Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present a congressional debate for candidates in the fifth congressional district. The debate will be held prior to the primary election and will include DFL candidates, Margaret Anderson-Kelliher, Ilhan Omar, Patricia Torres-Ray, and Republican candidate, Jennifer Zielinski. Mary Lahammer, Program Host and Political Reporter for TPT Television will moderate the debate. The August 2nd debate will be hosted by General Mills at their World Headquarters in Golden Valley and focus on federal issues important to business. More than 200 business leaders are expected to be in attendance.
Shannon Full, president of the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce noted the importance of the early debate. “We wanted to host the debate prior to the primary election so constituents would have an opportunity to understand where the candidates stand on issues that impact them, their businesses, and their employees. Candidates will have the opportunity to outline their policy positions on federal issues such as trade, immigration, workforce, and the economy.” Full continued, “as trade issues heat up and the workforce gets tighter, our members are challenged by the unpredictable policy and political landscape. Candidates will be asked for their ideas on solving these issues and others that are very real for Minnesota businesses and their employees.”
The congressional debate is part of TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Advocacy Edge Programming. Interested parties can register on the TwinWest website at www.twinwest.com .
